SPOT-ON U R!!!!! However; I HATE THE "M.I." TERMS (i.e.: "mentally ill" & "mental illness(es)" bc of their shameful & stigmatizing connotations. No different than the "M.R." terms (i.e.: "mentally retarded" & "mental retardation"). Nvrthlss; psych meds r simply "chemical pacifiers".
The most damage is done by the unprofessional withdrawal processes/coldturkeys and also abrupt switches of medication. People are told that the drugs aren't addictive and can be stoppend any time. And then the patient's brain goes boom… This blatant lie that is additionally perpetuated by most of psychiatrists has to be stopped. Just because some people are able to quit the drugs without major events, doesn't make it so for the majority. Moreover, you can't just switch from one drug to another, because the adressed receptors vary so much. For example, olanzapine to risperdal. Complete insanity to exchange it fast, as olanzapine acts far more on the serotonin receptors than risperdal. And I see this happening ALL THE TIME. And I'm sure that isn't just a problem with neuroleptics, but also ads and benzos. What do psychiatrists actually learn? They study so long, only learn to treat people with drugs, and don't even know anything about those drugs. What is this mess? What were you and other psychiatrists told in university? This doesn't make any sense.
Problem is that there is lack of psychiatrists, or psychologists are too expensive, it would be fine, that having basic counceling and active listening skills for anyone with a bit of counselling talent would be more affordable or basically taught at school for everyone basic things like dbt or emotion regulation, cbt theraphy or working with thoughts and behaviors..

150% true
It’s so heartbreaking
Yes, happened to me as well. Lost the majority of my adulthood to damage from AD’s and benzos. Still debilitated six years after discontinuation.

Your profession truly have destroyed so many peoples lives, taken from them all their potential. Truly stolen people's lives, killed so many.
I'm diseased because of your profession and in financial crisis. Nowhere to turn.
We appreciate the work you're doing.
The betrayal was (and is) the worst thing for me too
They should be in prison!

So many doctors have blood on their hands.
I have PSSD and totally agree
I didn't have a mental illness, I had hypothyroidism. A simple test could have prevented a decade of polypharmacy and Benzodiazepine withdrawal hell.
