Poem: Nowhere Man
By Dr. Archan Mehta
No one knew his title.
He was the invisible man.
No one was inquisitive about his recreation.
He by no means shot to fame
And lived alone.
He was typically stoned
And, generally, useless drunk
And he cried within the
Nighttime.
There was no person
To wipe away his tears
Or supply to purchase him a
Bottle of beer within the native bar.
He typically left his door ajar,
Eager for firm.
In his final days,
He typically spoke of dwelling
And, when he died,
He was deposited, like
Cash in a financial institution, in
An unmarked grave:
No one attended his funeral.
No one spoke about him
And even remembered him:
He was a
Statistic—faceless and anonymous:
You realize what?
It was nearly as if
This blue-collar and
Working-class janitor
By no means existed.
